DO THE RESEARCH!

We decided our show would be improved if we could smack someone in the face with a cream pie. It’s a logical move, don’t you think?

This could not be done without proper mechanisms, and equipment. These things need to be tested. Pie filling would be in people’s faces, and we needed to be sure they would be comfortable and safe, before we could perform it. This required research.

Whatever you are doing, it’s possible that you need to do some research. Maybe you should research your audience. Or your competitor. Research all of the possible outcomes for your idea. Research your market, and how it behaves under different circumstances. Sure, your main job is what you do, but before you do what you do, your job may require some research. Test your audience. Test your equipment. Run some polls. Get people’s input. If your endeavor is going to require other people, get people to participate, and get an idea of what their experience is going to be. It’s possible that you may need to do a lot more research than we did, shoving some pies into people’s faces. Don’t be afraid to do it. It is a necessary part of the process. Be sure you are ready to do whatever you are going to do, before you do it.

Do your research. It’s easy as pie.

Extra Credit

Whip cream pies are delicious, but they are sticky. And if they are not properly refrigerated, they melt and get drippy and messy. Shaving cream looks the same. But it does not require refrigeration. It is not sticky. It actually smells good. And, surprisingly, it does not sting the eyes! Thank you, research!
